Halo Kits & Retrofit
Updated: October 11, 2024
Halo headlight kit is a more affordable alternative to the aftermarket halo headlights. There are many halo lighting options available on the automotive aftermarket today. They come in different colors, employ different lighting technologies, are available in both universal and vehicle-specific variants. Before you pick a kit for your vehicle, itβs important to know the technological basis, this will help you make right decision.
Halo Kits for Headlights: Sizes & Fitment
If we want to classify headlight halo kits, there will be only 2 types in the list:
- Universal, or dimension-specific;
- Vehicle-specific.
You can make either work for your specific vehicle application, yet you should know that a vehicle-specific halo kit will work perfectly without any gaps. It is somewhat difficult to pick the right halo ring kit for your car or truck if you donβt know the exact outer diameter of the rings inside your headlight. To measure it, you will have to take headlights off the vehicle and disassemble at least one by removing the clear plastic lens. And then, you will need to assemble it and silicone the gap to prevent fogging. The better option at this point will be to check this information on one of the vehicle-specific forums.
Halo Ring Types: CCFL vs LED vs Plasma (comparison)
There are three main types of halos, based on the technology they are made. Today, there are 3 main types of halo rings: LED, CCFL and plasma. Let us compare them against each other to see the strengths and weaknesses of each.
# | LED | CCFL | PLASMA |
---|---|---|---|
The other name | SMD halo | CFL halo | COB halo |
Lifespan (hrs) | 60.000 | 50.000 | 60.000 |
Style of glow | Intense | Smooth | Smooth yet intense |
Material | Circuit board | Phosphor-coated glass tube | Crystallized circuit board |
Best display time | Day/night | Night | Day/night |
Level of brightness | Brightest | Bright | Brighter |
Start of production | 2000s | 1990s | 2010s |
Halo Rings: Colors
To start with, any halo headlight technology allows making a halo ring that will glow with almost any color. Yet, if you are seeking halo rings that will allow changing the color with a remote or by means of the mobile app, you will have to consider LED halo rings. As of today, the other technologies do not offer this option. When selecting the headlight halo kit color, itβs good to know legal restrictions for the automotive lighting in your area. Laws differ from state to state, yet red and blue lighting in the front end of a vehicle is illegal all over the country.

I upgraded my headlight beams to LEDs, and I was afraid it was illegal in my state because I've heard some aftermarket bulbs create glare and blind others. So far, everything is great, and I like the output!
I picked a color-changing halo kit for my wife's Soul, and it looks and works pretty well, yet installation will take you some time.
Hello,
I’m wondering if you’ve ever built projector style headlamps that would fit a ’65 Corvette? I know it’s been done because I researched it two years ago but lost all my notes! LOL. Anyway, the OEM bulb style is a T3. I’m looking for a projector style built that would fit the 5.75″ retaining clip and have a certain look to them.
Could you call me to let me know and if you might be able to help, I can describe what I’m looking for.
Thanks
Hi Blake, so you are saying you are interested in retrofitting the lens into the factory headlights of your ‘Vette, right? I cannot really comment from my experience, as I haven’t done that by myself. As an option, I can recommend checking aftermarket OE-style projector headlights. I know lights part #RS-575PHALO (by Race Sport) work great on the ’65 Vette, yet they have got a built-in halo, and I’m not sure you wanted it. Just sharing my thoughts.
Hi, I am looking to upgrade my fog lamps for my 2016 F150. I am satisfied with the OEM headlights but the fog lights are not good for much.
I am looking for advice on a replacement product for the fog lights. Since I am getting to be an older fart I can’t see as well as I used to :).
Thanks
Hi there, I believe the article about the best headlights for the F-150 might be of interest for you:

Interested in upgrading to Halo Headlights on 2003 Toyota Tundra. Do u carry complete headlight assembly for my truck?
Hey there,
The major manufacturers of aftermarket headlights do not offer halo headlights for your truck. However, you can grab a pair of OE-style Spyder headlights and install halo rings inside by yourself. The procedure is pretty simple. Just check out the instruction we have: https://halo-headlights.com/halo-kits-retrofit/comparison/installation.html
You will need just basic tools and basic technical skills.
Hope this helps!
Head lights on our
1999 F-26 chassis Rexhaul Vision Class A motor home are the popular dim yellow lights that were popular in the 1900s but are dim today. We have done many different polishes and soft scrub ideas. Even when they are clean and sparkly, they pale in comparison to the lights of today. We purchased a light bar to go in the front and even with it pointed downward we are still constantly getting flashed from on coming traffic. We are hoping you can customize our headlamps with LED?
I`m looking for Halo headlights for a 1988 cadillac DEV
Hi there,
looks like they do not offer aftermarket headlight assemblies for your Dev. You can install aftermarket halo rings into your stock headlight assemblies if you wish to. The installation procedure is not too difficult. Just make sure you order the right diameter of halos.
Is there anything halo or projector made for 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Hey John,
Seems like they do not offer any options for your vehicle. Still, your option is to try retrofit (installation of an aftermarket projector lens into your factory headlights) or adding custom LED accents (strips, halo rings).
I am looking for halo color changing headlights and fog lights for my 2006 PT cruiser as seen on you tube. Where can I get a kit?
Hey there,
As far as I know, there are no vehicle-specific color-changing halo headlights for your vehicle. So it is a good idea to consider a universal set. So, you can measure your headlights to see what halo size you need and order a dimension-specific set. Installation is quite simple, yet you will need to disassemble your factory headlights. Brands to consider: XKGlow, Diode Dynamics. Oracle Lighting also offers great options, yet they will be more expensive.
Looking for a 2002 chevy silverado halo headlights, color changing
Hey Josh,
I’m afraid there are no truly quality aftermarket headlight assemblies for the ’02 Silverado. However, if you have some free time and basic installation tools, you can make your own set for your truck. You will need a set of Euro-style headlights (for example, Spyder part # HD-JH-CSIL99-SM – around $95), a universal color-shift halo kit (for example, XK Glow part # XK042008-NC-100, price is around $110), and very basic tools.
There are so many instructions online, so you can check youtube to see, how to install halo rings into a headlight assembly. But here’s pretty much what you will need to do:
If you are not familiar with the process, it is always a good idea to install halos into brand-new aftermarket headlights. That’s because you may need a little more time to cope with the process. And, you still need headlights to drive with.
Hope this helps!
Since most OEM headlight assembly are made of polycarbonate, how can one tell if the aftermarket is polycarbonate or regular plastic; needing headlight protector film?
do you make a halo headlight to fit a vehicle that uses 5.750 diameter sealed beams
Hey Stephen,
I am sure I can find a set of headlights for you. Can you provide the year, make, and model of the vehicle you need the lights for?

Do you guys have a retrofitted halos for a 2007 Volvo S 60
Hello,
We don’t sell or stock products, but we can certainly provide some guidance on where to look for the product you’re seeking. Retrofitting your 2007 Volvo S60 with halo lights can add a modern touch to your vehicle, improving both the aesthetics and visibility.
For retrofitting halos on a 2007 Volvo S60, you’d typically want to look for a “halo headlight kit” or a “halo ring kit”. These kits typically include halo rings that you can install into your existing headlights, giving them that distinctive halo look.
Several companies specialize in automotive lighting and may offer halo kits suitable for your Volvo. Brands to consider might include Oracle Lighting or LED Concepts. It’s worth noting that installation of these kits can be intricate and may involve opening up your existing headlights, so professional installation might be recommended if you’re not comfortable with that.
Always ensure that any product you buy is compatible with your specific vehicle model and complies with local regulations.
I hope this information helps. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!
